Why should I kayak with Slat Creek kayak Adventures?
Our goal is great customer service, in fact this is the whole reason we opened, we saw a need for great customer service and have spent planning our service before we opened. We do this by: Maintaining a friendly staff. Having clean, comfortable facilities Providing the best creek access and take out, making it easier to get into and out of your boat. Constantly updating our equipment and facilities, and encouraging paddlers to keep it clean with our "treat it like your own" policy. Promoting a fun, family environment for our employees and customers.

What makes this place so great?
I could tell you – but you really have to find it out for yourself. We have tons of loyal friends that have been waiting for us to open. We have a dedicated staff who care about our customers and love to work here. And of course there are the really cool owners, Jennifer and Joe, words can’t describe how great they are.

Do I need to make reservations to kayak?
Only large groups are required to make a reservation, but if you have a small group and are renting kayaks, Please let us know in advance if you have a certain time. We have a good amount of kayaks and are adding more as needed, but there is a chance we can run out.

Do I need to make reservations to camp?
Yes, we recommend that you make reservations to camp. We have a large open area campsite available and they are starting to become in high demand in the summer months.

Can I bring alcohol?
It is against Ohio’s law to operate a watercraft while under the influence.  With that said, no alcohol is permitted on he creek, however if you are camping, you are allowed to bring as long as you follow Ohio laws.

Is firewood available?
Firewood is available in the area, but not at our facility at this time.  If this changes, we will update.  Until then, please bring your own.

Can I bring my pet? (cat, dog, iguana, …)
Pets are permitted on the property and on kayak rides. Pets must be leashed or contained in some way while in public areas and should be friendly to other pets and people.

What is the age limit?
The only set age limit is a minimum of three years old for any boat ride. Depending on the water conditions older age limits may apply.

How old do you have to be to take out a kayak?
There is no set age limit for taking out a kayak. It is dependent on the child kayaking and the child’s physical ability to handle the kayak for the length of a trip, as determined by the child’s parent or guardian. A typical eight year old could easily handle a kayak in normal river conditions.  We have a claus in our Waiver for minors.

What happens if the weather is bad before my trip departs?
Shuttles take people out rain or shine, unless there is thunder and lightening. If bad weather rolls in, the shuttle driver will check the weather and determine an appropriate take off time, or may cancel the trip.

What happens if the weather gets bad on my trip?
If there is any chance of bad weather your shuttle driver will give you instruction in what to do if you get caught in a storm. For the most part, the best thing to do is to keep paddling, staying in the center of the creek and heading downstream. If you have not yet passed a bridge, you can stop there and wait the storm out if you think it will pass.

How do I get back to my car after my trip?
For all of our trips you are shuttled upstream and then paddle back downstream to the facility where your car is parked.

What should I wear on the creek?
Be sure to check the local weather forecast and dress appropriately. Remember that the water will often be cooler than the air temperature. You should wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Old tennis shoes or sandals work well – basically any footwear that will stay on your foot.

What should I bring with me on my creek trip?
We recommend you have sunscreen, water and a snack for the trip. A waterproof camera or a camera in a watertight container is also nice.  Make sure your phone and any other electronic is in a waterproof container as well.

Are snacks or drinks available for purchase?
Yes. We have will have refreshments and snacks in the shop. In hotter weather we also sell additional cold water and ice cream.  We will keep other items available in small quantities, like ice and sunscreen.
